How it works
From PDF statement to a spreadsheet you can trust
Tanod reads the transaction table of your statement, checks it against the balances your bank printed, and gives you the result as Excel or CSV.
1. Upload your statement
Download the statement as a PDF from your online banking and drop it on the converter. Files up to 15 MB and 30 pages are accepted. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
2. We read the transactions
Our converter finds the transaction table by its column headings, in twelve languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Indonesian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese and Hindi. It understands the three common layouts:
- one amount column with a minus sign for money out;
- separate debit and credit columns;
- one amount column with CR and DR markers.
Descriptions that wrap over several lines are joined, headings repeated on every page are skipped, and number formats such as 1.234,56 or 1,234.56 are read correctly.
3. We check every balance
For each row, the previous balance plus the amount must equal the balance printed on that row, to the cent. Then the opening balance plus all transactions is compared with the closing balance. You see the result on the page before you pay:
- Balances reconcile every row matches and the totals add up.
- Rows to review the totals add up, but some rows do not follow from the one before; they are listed so you can check them.
- Does not reconcile the transactions do not add up to the closing balance. A row may be missing or misread.
- Not checked the statement prints no opening or closing balance to check against.
4. Download
The Excel workbook has a Transactions sheet (date, description, amount, balance, a row check and a note on flagged rows, which are shaded) and a Summary sheet (opening and closing balance, money in and out, currency and the check results). The CSV has the same transaction columns, UTF-8 encoded, ready for import into accounting software.
Spreadsheet formulas are never written into your file: any cell text that could be read as a formula is neutralised, so a crafted description cannot run in your spreadsheet.
What we cannot read yet
- Scanned or photographed statements (no text inside the PDF).
- Password-protected PDFs: save or print a copy without the password first.
- Statements longer than 30 pages: split them first.
When a file cannot be converted, you are told why and nothing is charged.
Your privacy, in short
Your PDF is read on our own server, never sent to an AI service or shared with any other company, and not kept after the conversion. The spreadsheet is deleted 1 hour after conversion. Read the privacy policy for the details.
